The satire of the millennia is here. The creators of Star Wreck finished up their latest creation, which would have been impossible without the support of the internet community –which coughed up a eighth of the funding. Iron sky is about Nazis living on the dark side of the moon, preparing the invasion of earth in 2018; simultaneously Sarah Palin is running for re-election. If this doesn´t wake up your appetite...shoot yourself. One warning must be given: If you expect to find fart jokes, you will be disappointed.

All in all there is not much to complain about. The actors were brilliant, the special effects were great, and the script was good. Somehow I feel that there was something missing. The greatest proof for this was that the audience wasn´t cracking up nearly as often as they should have if this film was to get full points. The basis of the film was brilliant, but the Nazis-are-attacking-from-the-moon-joke was overplayed.

It was a pleasant surprise to have the leader of the Nazis is played by Udo Kier, who was a sight for the gods in his uniform. Just as an extra bit of info: When Götz Otto, who played the second in charge, was asked if he had interest in playing a comic-Nazi, he said “Send me the script and the contract!” It was quite obvious that the international cast had a lot of fun playing their roles. The most pleasant part of the cast was played by Julia Dietze, who portrayed the innocent, brainwashed Renate Richter.

Perhaps the greatest aspect of the film is the fact that every joke has a hint of truth in it and this is the groundwork of satire. These days it seems that one just look into comedy to find the problems in our world -just look at George Carlin. Similarly perhaps the greatest freedom speech was made by Charlie Chaplin in “The Great Dictator”. Thus this film shows the shallowness of political campaigns and the cheeky international policies of superpowers.

In the end the film was really good. Due to the special effects and drama, it´s definitely a flick for the big screen, so I strongly recommend seeing it in a theatre.
