On 417 pages Everett True spreads his insider knowledge about the Ramones. This is at the same time strength and weakness of this collection: True is just too close to his subjects, he is fan and longtime comrade. There´s a little bit of distance missing that you need to keep events, causes and consequences in order. He let´s everyone have his or her say , from club-goers to producers, Moms and anecdotes but most of all he himself has the word and it´s about his unlimited adoration for the Ramones. Thus, the view for their placement in the rock ´n´roll world gets lost. The book is a nice start for new fans but otherwise less had been more: more biographic thread, less Mister True and his at times schoolboy-like literary outpourings. But: the book costs only just under 16 euros – for that you get a lot of cool Ramones-quotes.
