It is a bit difficult to review a re-release, like in this case. Son Of The Shades came out in 2002, the second output of the Spanish one man Black Metal project Elffor (= Eöl - voc & synth), who had some help here from Numen and Suffering Donw (e.g. guest guitarist Jabo). The style shifted from Ambient to more Medieval Black Metal, and the whole edition of 500 records was sold out within two months.
One more reason why Northern Silence now has the whole oevre of Elffor in its program, and all four CDs will be re-released in chronological order. Therefore after "Into The Dark Forest" it was now "Son Of The Shades" turn to be remastered and re-designed (new artwork). Moreover, with "Hidden In The Nebular Landscape" you get a bonus track that indeed freshens up the album a bit. In other words, it brings more Metal to this BM gem. For my taste there could have been a bit more punch & evil vocals, but still, a great album that will definitely rotate more often in my CD player.
