Karelia, a historical region, which nowadays comprises Russian and Finnish territories, has always been a hard-fought area. SatanaKozel from Russian-Karelia probably use this troubled history as a source of inspiration for their pagan/folk metal in the style of Ensiferum and Korpiklaani. The songs, however, also have their own Russian touch and so the lyrics are held solely in their national language, which is already known from several other Viking/Pagan Metal bands. Even though this debut album from the “goats of Satan” was already recorded in 2007 the songs sound fresh and make you reach for your furry vests and mead horn. Live it is certainly still a bit more fun to watch, listen to and shout along, even though you don´t understand a word.
