I like folk music not that much and really do not like this typical american country music stuff. Is there a difference between folk and country music? I guess not. Maybe country music is kind of a part of folk music, probably the american part. Anyway.
In fact THE BEGGARS have made an folk album and this sounds really american, but infact they are not Americans , they are from the south of Australia. So I guess the south of down under is what the west is in the USA- farm, cows , sheep, cowboys and even country- folk music. And even if country not that kind of music I prefer, this record has got some beauties in it (for example: The Cold Wind Keeps Blowing, Carolina, Carry My Load…) and after listening the second time DESERT FLOWER is turning into a real wonderful album.
The Desert Flower is best when it gets more melancholic and my favourite songs are sung by Stuart Day, multi instrumentalist, producer, singer of THE BEGGARS. Beside him not to forget Renee Donaghey (vocalist and guitar) and the crystal-clear voice that makes you melt and at least Quinton Dunne (vocals and double bass). These three guys let the DESERT FLOWER live.
