For a long time, we had to wait for a sign of life from Triosphere and finally, finally here it is! The new album is called “The Heart of the Matter” and all of the songs come directly from the heart, to the record player.

With their last album, “The Road Less Travelled”, Triosphere released a pure masterpiece in 2010 and it was clear that it will be more than difficult to top it. But the band took their time for the follow-up record, four whole years to be exact. But the waiting was worth it. Produced by Jens Bogren, who worked with Opeth and Paradise Lost in the past, the Norwegians delivered a great piece of art. The guitar melodies are catchy, the guitar solos aplenty and the drums are always elaborate and straight to the point. About the singer and bassist one can only say: DIVINE! She surprises the listener with very new record and show that she keeps on improving her vocal skills. It´s also very obvious that she´s not one of those bassists, who use only one string. On this record, however, Ida Haukland has opted for a few quieter notes and sings a bit softer or maybe just more relaxed? At least, this is how it sounds like. She did a really great job on this record but don´t worry, she also uses her rough whiskey voice here and there. And it´s great that she does because she´s one of the few real rock chicks in the genre. Triosphere stayed true to their style and combined Melodic Metal with Prog Power Metal elements. Everyone, who loves incredible guitar parts, will find it here, courtesy of Marius and T. O. Some songs deserve special mention as for example “Breathless”, which is the first slower piece on the album and “Departure”. But I could basically mention every song because they are all fabulous, each having its own character and quality.

What the four from Trondheim created here is just a masterpiece of passion and love for music. They couldn´t have done a better follow-up record to “The Road Less Travelled”. Unfortunately, there´s also a bitter aftertaste. This album will be the last one with drummer Ørjan Jørgensen, who decided to leave the band. We wish him all the best for the future. Let´s see how the new drummer will fit in with the band but as long as they play their music from the heart, nothing can possibly go wrong. I´m so happy they are back.
