29 years after the split of the Stooges the legendary band got back together in 2003 and thereafter even released a new record called “The Weirdness” in March of this year. In May a double-DVD will be published that`s got it all. Packed with material from 30 years of band history.
CD number 1 contains a concert recording of the band from the Belgian Lokerse festival from 2005. There are two versions to choose from – original and director`s cut. The original version shows the concert in its purest form without any treatment. The main focus is on the band who is caught from all possible camera perspectives. The enthusiastic crowd, however, is only rarely shown und so the whole atmosphere of the concert isn`t really coming across. Nevertheless it`s utterly entertaining to see whereto Iggy is diving next and how much ass he`s showing during the song. The director`s cut is an edited version of the concert, there are some other camera perspectives, in which also the wild crowd is shown and there are also some artistic black-white cuts. The band plays exclusively Stooges songs from their first two albums “The Stooges” and “Funhouse” as well as songs from Iggy`s 2003 album “Skull Ring”. Those who wait for Iggy classics like “Passenger” or “Lust For Life” do this in vain. The songs are also singly selectable und that in the original as well as the director`s cut version. Sound- and video quality are superb. Extras on CD1 include interviews with guitarist Ron Asheton and drummer Scott Asheton, both about 30 minutes long.
CD number two contains a one-hour documentary on 30 years of the band`s history with photos and video material from times long ago – from Iggy`s beginnings as a drummer of a high school band to becoming the notorious fronter of the Stooges. You come to realise that not much has changed during those 30 years, the man still has the same energy on stage, and also the same wardrobe. Furthermore, you`ll find a 67-minute interview with the man himself on the CD, which was recorded in 2006 and in which Iggy tells some more anecdotes and allows some interesting insights into his life. Also Ester Friedman, Iggy`s former girlfriend and photographer, has her say and chats about her life with Jim, how she calls him fondly. As a DVD-ROM in your computer the CD also contains some extended stories and tales in pdf-format.
All in all this double DVD has everything a fan needs and is therefore recommended to all die-hard Stooges fans but also to those who want to become one. All the interviews are in English, there are no subtitles offered.
