After Slash brought his world tour to an end this year, it was a personal must for him to play in his home town, Stoke –Stoke-on-Trent in the Midlands of England to be specific. This live DVD is the result of the brilliant concert, which was filmed in the Victoria Hall in Stoke on the 24th of July. With singer Myles Kennedy, guitarist Bobby Schneck, bassist Todd Kerns, and drummer Brent Fitz, a medley consisting of tracks from his latest solo album, as well as those from Guns ´n Roses and Velvet revolver was created. There are seven G´nR hits -e.g., “Sweet Child of Mine”, “Paradise City”- and they were surprisingly well sung. Obviously it isn´t as if Axl was on the microphone, but it´s easy to dream about such a reunion while watching this DVD. Despite his 46 years of mileage, Slash still has it and he showed it in an impressive –but slightly narcissistic- way with the “Godfather Solo”.
Aside the interview with Slash, there is also one with Myles Kennedy and one with Slash´s uncle, who tells us (with help of other family members) about the little Slash and his childhood. Somehow very cute.
This DVD is worth buying, even if only a quarter of the songs are classics from G´nR; a must for every fan. There could have been more bonus material and the whole thing is a bit short, so that´s two points off. As far as the sound and quality otherwise, there is nothing to complain about.
