German Hardrockers BERSERKER will donate 18.000€ to the Berlin cancer charity for children on May 25. November 2011 BERSERKER front man Schröder was diagnosed with cancer, now he is cancer-free. In 2012 the band collected money for this charity at their concerts and will also continue to do so in the future. Slayer´s Jeff Hanneman is dead: he passed away at about 11AM on May 2nd near his Southern California home because of liver failure due to an infection after a spider bite. R.I.P. Jeff!

The bands Aeternitas Gothic-Theatre-Metal around Anja and Alexander Hunzinger from Lübeck canalized from 2008 on into the rocking musical “Rappacinis Daughter” which was represented at the last WGT and which won the German Rock and Pop Award 2008 - and guests in Hamburg now. Gloomy and gothic is the libretto indeed, based on the scary romantic drama the American Nathaniel Hawthrone wrote in the 19th century. But instead of the presence of black clothed fans from the dark scene, rather normal people from central Hamburg visited the show less inside of morbid murk than more searching for evening entertainment. But, this to mention, the Delphi Showpalast in Hamburg was the place, where “Rappacinis Daughter” for the first time was shown two years ago.
At the tables wine and beer kept the acoustical event wet and smooth. The hall was well filled with visitors. The band Aeternitas set below the stage in a dark corner, from where they energetically, but from the level of sound unobtrusively rocked the saloon; less metal, more rock with calm, elegiac insertions of ballads. This they did – after the magical curtain has opened to the sides – pretty enjoyable and convincing. The puristic scenery let enough space to the fantasy of the audience to imagine the sparse room from where the medical student Giovanni discovers the lonesome, beautiful, but poisoned daughter Beatrice of Doctor Rappacini in his – after a fast, ingenious change of the scenery – secret garden.
Alexander Hunzinger, the creator of the musical himself, expressively plays the role of Giovanni inside of a clime in which he took the whole band with him. Obviously it is remarkable that this is the work of a small musical-family, where everybody truly acts from the bottom of the heart. Carsten Hille in the performance of Doctor Rappacini presented his debut this time quite impressively, nevertheless the neurotic and psychotic sides of the unworldly scientist could still be stronger shown. At all, the tragedy and gloom could work out with more decision to intensify the contrast to the romantic, hopeful, but at least hopeless love affair. A little bit more gothic and ghoulish climate would strengthen the 19th century spirit.
Hamburg is a city known for its musicals. Earlier “Cats” and “Phantom of the Opera”, today “The Lion King” and “Sister Act”, in between “Dance of the Vampires” courts for the amount of visitors. But this small team round Aeternitas shows that it’s possible to build up a real cool show without technical overkill and all the financial power. They lead the musical back to the roots, to the emotional engagement of Anja, Alexander and their fellow campaigners. This is no calculated show event with the primal aim to make a lot of profit. This is a representation of some peoples dreams and passion; and they do it very professional and in every detail with love and well done enacted with a great feeling for nice melodies.
