Every year, when Tuska Open Air is held in the capital of Finland, even non-attendees can look forward to plenty of live-action. "Jatkoklubi" is the keyword: Various gigs which take place in the evening of the festival days in the clubs of Helsinki. Not an official "Jatkoklubi" event of Tuska but still pretty "crowded" is today`s concert at "On The Rocks", performed by Niki Rock (Vocals), Kaisa (Guitar), Ekkis (Guitar), Minttu (Bass) and Niina (Drums), better known as "Finland`s hottest girl rock band", the Barbe-Q-Barbies. No wonder that tonight`s audience is at least 90% male...
After the opener "Rockstar" and "New Direction", a new song called "Whole Lotta You" follows, and due to the fact that the whole "On The Rocks" is rocking now, you can be sure that the successor of the debut album "All Over You" - which is currently in the making at the "Sound Supreme Studio" in Hämeenlinna - will become something very big. "Saturday", another newer composition, and the non-album track "Crashing Down" are further examples which support this theory. Altogether, the girls offer a similarly grandiose Rock`n`Roll performance as they did exactly five weeks ago at the "Kumpulan Kyläjuhlat 2012" - and since then, much has happened: They rocked together with the British hard rockers from Jettblack, and with the brandnew track "Love Machine", the first single from the still untitled second opus has been released.
Being aware of the Tuska tourism, Niki Rock asks in between in English if everyone who`s present tonight is able to understand Finnish. Then, the Finland-Swede adds: "Vi kan också prata svenska." [Swedish for: "We can also speak Swedish."] In the end, it`s already too much for the men when Niki introduces - as an encore - the first ballad of the Barbe-Q-Barbies, "Gun In My Hand". Although the introduction is in English, some people in the audience demand impatiently after two, three sentences only: "Bring it on!" At least, the men are willing to wave the lighters during this very felicitous acoustic song before it`s time to rock again with the final The Rolling Stones cover "Star Star".
After the gig, the few female attendees at "On The Rocks" can "look forward" to plenty of male attention. Fueled by the Barbe-Q-Barbies and litres of "öl" [Not to be mistaken for the German word for "oil"; it`s Swedish for "beer"], hardly any man wants to go home alone tonight. Those who had to, can try their luck again on 25th August 2012. Then, the Barbe-Q-Barbies will rock again in their hometown Helsinki, at "Bar Loose"...
