The story: After 11 years of working in a salvage company, submarine captain Robinson is unexpectedly fired. Beforehand his wife divorced him and he has no visitation rights for his son. An old navy colleague informs him of a German submarine loaded with a huge amount of gold lying at the bottom of the Black Sea which is still there. As desperate as they are, they seek out someone to finance the escapade and set off to find the treasure with a half Russian, half British crew. The longer the search takes, the more intense the whole situation gets. Greed, fear, superstition, violence and death are what the captain and crew have to deal with.
Realisation: The actors deliver very good performances without a big fuss with special effects. The framework of the story isn´t quite enough to give the film full points, but I foresee Jude Law as an Oscar nominee for best actor as Captain Robinson.
Conclusion: This is a splendidly casted and thrilling submarine-treasure-hunt with depth.
