The story: The sports drama Moneyball is based on the true story of the baseball coach Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) and the American Baseball team Oakland Athletics. Beane, himself a former professional baseball player, who could not meet the high expectations people had in him, attempts to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players. Therefore he hires the Harvard graduate Peter (Jonah Hill). This new approach brought him nothing but criticism in the first place.
The movie "Money Ball - The art of winning"In this movie the plot revolves around a baseball coach; not necessarily something with which you really want to spend your movie evening with (unless you´re American or like the game), but in the case of "Moneyball" you would actually miss on something. Certainly baseball is the theme, but only as a framework for a complex, multifaceted and beautiful story, the fact that it´s based on a true story makes it even more beautiful. In addition to a damn good Brad Pitt in the lead role in this film, all roles are played very well, refined and implemented. For example, the roles of the baseball players are taken by real life baseball players who can act, which gives the whole thing a touch more authenticity. The movie is also about courage to go new ways, fear and defeat, disappointment and decisions, and much more. It succeeded to avoid all kind of cheesiness, or the usual pathos. The only real minus is a little something, which is missing, but this movie is nevertheless one great example that an excellent movie is able to be done with a good theme, a few good actors, and what´s more, without the following: 3D, love stories, and special effects! Kudos to the screenwriters Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian and the cast!
