Airbourne are definitely wizz-kids, no doubt about that! The Australiens toured a lot after the release of their EP “Ready To Rock” and then it was time for their debut album “Runnin´ Wild”. This highly acclaimed CD was a rock album par excellence and managed to get loads of good reviews - despite (or even because of?) sounding like their fellow countrymen - good old AC/DC. After that it was just natural to play in Wacken and rock the crowd that much, that this gig is still remembered as “damn great” among those, who witnessed the madness. At the latest after this, Airbourne was well known among metalheads.
Even when you like touring a lot, you have to go back to the studio at some point to create a new album and that´s what Airbourne have done - the result is “No Guts.No Glory”. Big name for an album, that has to meet hight expectations, since it has to follow the footsteps of the highly acclaimed debut album - and those footsteeps left from that album are big ones for sure. Let´s see, whether they´re able to follow...

The first thing to do, would be for example, starting the album with a big bang, and so they did with “Born To Kill”. The direction of the album becomes clear straight from the beginning, no big changes in style - and this wouldn´t have been right for this band, that has commited itself to good old Aussie-Rock. So in short: It´s all about rocking till you drop in good old AC/DC style. The following “No Way, But The Hard Way” takes the same line and is also the first single of the album. „Basically, we’ve never been about having a specific message; we don’t talk about politics or social injustices in our songs. There are other bands out there to take care of that. With us, it’s not like that. It’s just rock and roll. We want people to have a good time, no matter what. Have a drink, play it really loud, and kick back.” - guess singer Joel O´Keeffe is absolutely right there. They do, what they can do best. There´s no room for technically complex music or lyrics on this record, it´s all about Rock and party. Having said that, the following “Blonde, Bad and Beautiful” just proves this once more, it´s really a great song to sing along and have a good time. Some songs tell the story about the hard time the band had before being as successful as they´re now (“No Way But The Hard Way”, others are about touring and all the different kinds of people, you meet all over the world (“Steel Town”). “It Ain´t Over, Till It´s Over”, is the title of one song and that´s true. One thing is for sure, it´s not over with Airbourne yet, not at all. With this album they showed everyone that they´re not just a flash in the pan.
Long story short, the rating of this album is easier, than I would´ve thought at first. No big chances, but nobody really expected those. On the other nobody wanted changes either, because Airbourne are known for kicking ass and that´s just what they do here! Those are songs to party to, drink a beer and simply having a good time. Those, who liked the debut, can buy the new one as well, without thinking twice, cause you´ll love it. However, despite the fact, that they didn´t completely manage to top the debut, it´s still a more than solid album and deserves a good rating. In case you still haven´t rocked enough after listening to the album, you´ll be happy to hear, that the Australians are of course doing a tour for this album as well. Very soon!
