The Finnish band Amberian Dawn doesn`t seem to have a writer`s block. Every year the band that formed in 2006 releases a new album. Already with their debut album River of Tuoni, they managed to snatch a spot on the European tour of Epica and a year later they played at the Metal Female Voices festival. With End of Eden, Amberian Dawn now return to European stages.

Like on their last albums, singer Heidi Parviainen convinces with her great, classically trained soprano voice. She gives the finishing touches to the music behind her consisting of soft keyboard sounds and heavy guitar solos. Throughout the album, the band stays true to their chosen genre, symphonic metal. Only here and there some power metal riffs are added to give the songs more liveliness. With End of Eden, Mastermind Tuomas Seppälä has proven once again that he knows his craft. The songs are versatile and powerful.

With Virvatulen Laulu there`s an opera duet on End of Eden that features the professional opera singer Markus Nieminen. It`s a very beautiful and quiet track. And there`s another duet, this time with a talented rock singer. Peter James Goodman gives his best and turns the song War in Heaven into THE highlight of the album.

One minus point is maybe that Heidi only sings in her usual way and thus, all vocal melodies sound pretty much alike. Even though she sings her parts perfectly, you start to get bored of it after a while. Then you wish for something more powerful, which you do get at the end of the album...by other singing partners, though.

Next time the band could dare to try out some more things when it comes to vocals. This would bring the desperately needed versatility. But it`s definitely worth to have a listen to this album.
