In this day and age it seems that even though there is a lot of new music being made and new styles and genres founded, somehow it seems that there is a need for old songs to be covered, remixed and re-re-rereleased. One could argue that the new musicians have no new ideas, and as such they can only cover their older, more successful and creative colleagues. Similarly, it could be said that the music labels are trying to pump more money into their pockets. On the other hand, there are so many older bands –some of which have a status of being legendary and pioneer of their times- that the new generations have missed. Some of us may have seen the Facebook status, where someone asked when this new band Nirvana would be on tour. Thus there is a need to educate the new generation on where Metal started. And henceforth, I am proud to present the re-release of Abominations double album “Abomination/Tragedy Strikes.”

The record has a whooping 36 tracks –a compilation of tracks from the two albums “Abomination” and “Tragedy Strikes” as well as old demos. The band was started in 1987 and the records are from the beginning of the 90´s and the harshness of the sound reflects this quite well -even though there are several bands of the same genre (e.g Sodom, Kreator, Slayer), which made music before Abomination and still had a cleaner sound. But then again, as Abomination fits somewhere between Thrash, Speed and Death Metal, the sound should be a bit rough around the edges.

It must be said that Abomination may have done something original in their own time and may be heroes and figureheads within those that worship the music genre they play, but in the end there are so many bands that have produced so much better material than Abomination. There are some good tracks within the album, e.g. Murder, Rape, Pillage And Burn, Reformation, You Could Be Next (which sounds awfully much like Kreator), but the album as a whole sadly has a few faults too many.
