This DVD was published already seven years ago, but never crossed the iron curtain (only privately perhaps) to Germany. Therefore you will never get this DVD, except you drive to Poland and walk there into a music-store and ask for the ultimate star of the Polish independent-rock-scene: Kazik Staszewski. Because of that there has never been anything written about this DVD in Germany before.

So does it make sense to write about it? I think: absolutely yes! We get all the stuff from western nations, but the eastern neighbours, where the musical scene quite intensively and loudly vibrates, has a small chance only to get through our mental customs frontier. Kazik rocks since the beginning of the 80s. He rocks solo with his band KNZ and since 25 years massively with his main project KULT, who fills the halls and clubs and appears on festivals always as the headliner. In this long time a lot of video-clips were produced. The independent-label S.P.Records chose seven years ago a selection of 32 and published them on this DVD. The title means pretty simply: “Independent, short music-films”. S.P. stands for Slawek Pietrzak, who was formerly a guitar-player in KULT, so everything stays independent and familiar, but constantly and commercially becoming successful.

Those clips give an unusual overview about two decades of polish subculture incl. the political and social changes of the country, which belong to the themes of the texts Kazik write. From early punk- and wave-periods through trips to Hip-Hop and Rap leading to hard rock-music. And to the melodic power-rock of KULT with four blowers (2 sax, trumpet, trombone). From self-made experiments to the perfect and commercial art-video. Everything in polish language and very slavic, hard but heartly, rough but poetic. A real lesson and blowing up the consciousness for everybody, who asks himself: is there something going on on the other side of the eastern border? Well, who wants to know more, shouldn´t be afraid to ask me.
