When we arrived at Knust (former butchery) about 20 h, it seemed that even a name like Clawfinger cannot fill the hall, that had happened also to the Backyard Babies. Unfortunately this is not the exception at Knust, although it is one of the better venues in Hamburg. But later it got full to the bursting point, and the opener Calm Chaos had already a big audience.

Nobody had heard of Calm Chaos before, so the result of a spontaneous survey. They also come from Sweden and looked quite strange in their white painter/mental-hospital-nurse uniformes, or whatever they should be. Only singer Patric stood out with his black wide pants and 80s-shirt.

Musically they offered Rap-Metal, a good choice for the support of Clawfinger. The band managed to heat up the crowd. But nobody had told them that Hamburg is a real rough place for support acts, and that it really meant a lot that even small moshpits were formed and every song got a lot of applause.

The singer had obviously expected more and seemed bitter asking „Please come closer! We did a long journey to be here tonight“. Well, a pity that Calm Chaos didn't just enjoy the show as much as the audience; and with only half an hour their showtime was really a bit too short.

After 40 minutes finally Clawfinger entered the stage with the James Bond-classic „Goldfinger“ and started their show with the titletrack of their new album „Hate Yourself With Style“. Unfortunately our camera, that was supposed to work a bit longer with new batteries, gave up after the first Clawfinger-snapshot. Luckily we found people in the audience helping out: a big thanks to Marco, Florian and Steffie!

Most bands do not enjoy that people enter the stage all the time, playing air guitar and performing a good stage dive afterwards. But Clawfinger really had fun with that and singer Zak Tell even invited the guys on stage.

Only bass player André Skaug, who Zak called „a monster, in good and bad sense of the word“, sometimes pushed too enthusiastic fans from stage.

I have hardly ever seen a band so close to the audience without appearing sleazy, so Zak remembered his last time in Hamburg when a couple had entered stage: „Does anybody know if they are still together? Are they happy?“ He introduced every song with some explanation of the lyrics and their meaning. „Burn in Hell“ just offers assumptions who might be concerned, but most people might be on the right way. Finally, after two encores, the band added „Do What I Say“ that the audience sang along and continued by themselves for quite a long time, which obviously got to the band's hearts.

After 15 minutes of applause the band got off stage to the bar to give autographs, had their pictures taken or taking pictures of their fans themselves.

A great evening that everybody obviously enjoyed a lot. (SA)

From the first moment on stage Clawfinger exploded with energy. The enthusiasm of the audience grew with every song, especially with the hits of the band. It was a true pleasure to watch this excellent performance in a sold-out hall. Also the frequency of stage divers could tell something about the band. This show was a good introduction for people who have never seen the band before, because their music mix offered something vor everybody. (GP)
