Looking at title and summary I had expected a detailed analysis of Springsteen´s music and especially the lyrics. Instead, all songs are described rather briefly and many biographical details are told. These are nothing new to any reader who has read one of Springsteen´s biographies. The analysis of the music is done well in my opinion, but not as interesting as it could be, because there are no details on the lyrics. The author advertised controversial opinions on the songs, but these are reduced to a few sentences. I would like to mention the good chapter on different Springsteen Covers. In addition to that the author added songs to the book that have not been officially released. Kudos to him for being thorough in that respect. Conclusion: Anyone who wants a brief overview of Springsteen´s work will enjoy reading this. Anyone expecting in-depth analysis of his songs, is better advised not to buy this book.
