The Opener "Separation" already indicates that those are professionals: emotional classic Metal guitars in the style of Maiden - but then beware! "Nothing Left" blasts out of the speakers, a mixture of Melodic Death/Metalcore, that means: weird thrashy riffs a la Megadeth and powerful right-in-your-face Metal a la Pantera, Death growls but also clean vocals a la Linkin Park - got it?

The same style continues, Melodic Death in European style, mixed with Metalcore and catchy tunes and choruses, which invites comparisons with In Flames or Soilwork. The title track "An Ocean Between Us" has also Speed Metal elements, whereas "Comfort Betrays" combines mid-tempo grooves with hectic riff attacks - great! The Linkin-Park-goes-Death-Metal track "I Never Wanted" is another highlight that after a smooth start develops into a bombastic riff/double bass thunderstorm that - just like "Wrath Upon Ourselves" - simply blows your ears off!

The guys from San Diego, USA, Tim Lambesis -Vocals, Phil Sgrosso - Guitar, Nick Hipa - Guitar, Jordan Mancino - Drums, now with new Bassist Josh Gilbert, produced indeed a great piece of Metal with their fifth CD. No wonder that they are one of the best-selling Metal Blade acts in their home country! Great act, yet for my taste there could be more of a As I Lay Dying trademark, something that distinguishes them more clearly from their Scandinavian colleagues... but still:
