With The Divine Conspiracy those young Dutchmen release their fourth album. In the beginning of this year it was already clear that Epica made their breakthrough because then they signed with Nuclear Blast, where colleagues like Nightwish and other acts with tender female voices are at home. The Divine Conspiracy takes Epica back to their beginnigs with bombast choirs and shows that they have grown with their sound, not only musically. Singer Simone Simons shows her vocal spectrum and sings Rock-style like never before. Songs with some oriental influences invite to dance and sing along. Mastermind Mark Jansen gives, as usual, his best and underlines Simoneīs fragile voice perfectly with his growls. A well done album that sounds interesting and has you wanting more. Especially a song like Chasing the Dragon makes you cry, but it might be difficult to perform this album live, and without all those choirs it might sound boring. But letīs see, Epica will in November be touring in Europe with Sonata Arctica.
