Medieval music crossing over to Pop/Rock, in Latin and Middle German or other languages - and those acts that might come to mind should also include Estampie!
Decades ago students of classical music in Salzburg began to focus more on medieval music and to find new interpretations of it, also the name Estampie indicates instrumental music from 13th and 14th century, probably dance music. Well, those classic roots is still evident in the vocal style and instrumentation (no amps!), in all those years 3 members became 10 and more, the hobby a passion and a job, and 8 CDs and a live DVD (musically retracing the journey of Marco Polo to the realm of Ghengis Khan) were released. This Best Of gives a good overview of Estampieīs work that in their beginnings kept close to the original text but soon became more experimental. This and their Ethno approach - in cooperation with the Spanish-Arabic ensembles LīHam de Foc and Aman Aman - is well documented here. The musical scale covers more meditative music (Disse mi, Reis glorius), fragile female voices and/or Gregorian male choirs, exciting Ehtno mixes (Gol) and music that has you dancing immediately (A voi gente, O Fortuna). And there is also the playing time, this CD artwork and extensive booklet...
Therefore you just want more, itīs worth to check the back-catalogue - and STALKER tourdates...
