Achenar was founded 2003 as one man project by the Scotsman Duncan Hemingway, and he is still mastermind and the only band member. The CD rather starts off as radio interference than as something that could be called "music" - then itīs heading towards epic and mysterious, the comparison in the band info with Ulverīs bizarre sound worlds is absolutely accurate. Difficult to describe, partly "real" instruments, partly electronic stuff, sometimes it seems rather like the soundtrack of a Japanese horror movie than a CD to listen to - Ulver on Ecstasy, or as if Fields Of The Nephilim had been commissioned with an alternative musical interpretation of the Orcs attacking Helmīs Deep ("Verify Me"). At times wonderful sound pictures, evoking visions of barren Scotish Loch landscapes covered with snow, at times "Goth Disco", at times disturbing and pretty scary. But quite exciting and exotic, therefore fans of the bands mentioned should give this one a try, too.
