E-QUAD are from the Netherlands, the more unusual seems the title of their first longplayer ´NO SMOKE´. Not unusual is the mixture of their styles, like HipHop, Jazz, Drum ´ n bass and House, Trip-Hop. Only it has not been heard for a long time. The singer impresses with a great voice and underlines the multi-faceted songs
on ´NO SMOKE ´ .
Leonie Müller knows how to convince with well-arranged rhymes and shows a preference for rap music, with other things - extremely good and extremely innovative what you get here. The ´E´ in the band name stands probably for electronic or similar issues, but it does not mean that you get hit by synthesizer sounds all the time. That is not what ´NO SMOKE´ is about.
A few tracks are even a bit Pop. ´Refugee´ reminds a little bit of 80-s pop classics. Everything what the music world has to offer is melted in the E-QUAD- pot, yet much more than guitarsounds or some sample junk. Maybe a convinced Metalhead will gain nothing out of this record and this is ok, because it is not made for him. So the ones who like sophisticated, diverse and innovative Alternative music or connoisseurs have no other choice, than to get hold of ´ NO SMOKE ´!
