For more than ten years Blackmores´ Night releases albums that are impossible to imagine the Folk Rock scene without. Former Deep Purple Guitarist Richie Blackmore regularly provides us with curious stuff for medieval adroitness. The seventh output “Secret Voyage” is therefore a special recipe, based on classic acoustic guitars and moral-attitude Folk. Just like in the old days, his companion Candice Night lets her melancholic voice purl out of the boxes. Great! A course is set especially with the Blackmore- solos which are easy-breezily picked over the six-string. So “Locked Within The Crystal Ball“ and “Prince Waldeck´s Galliard“ are some serious tracks for me, richly layered like a well made baguette, with good ingredients/tidbits au gratin. Whereas “Toast To Tomorrow” ties in with some kind of hit parade song. The bottom line is this is probably the best and at the same time the most eclectic album in the band´s history. This means for genre-fans: snap it up!
