After the notable changes (which from my opinion equals to a total collapse) of Nightwish; after After Forever declared their own end, the field of female-fronted classic symphonic metal scene is seeing its last quality days. Yet there is still hope and it is because of bands like this, Tears of Magdalena, it is possible to hope that it is not over just yet.

This act, formed amidst Finnish solitude and darkness, is truly a classic starting from their traditionally romantigothic outfits to the fairies and vampires in their lyrics. On a border line between clichés and solid traditions of its genre, ToM enchant you at once with probably the most powerful female soprano we’ve heard since departure of Nightwish’s former vocalist. Magdalena Lee’s vocal scope is simply breathtaking. With all the rights, she can be called female version of magnificent Roy Khan. It is fragile as it’s piercing through, yet at the same time extremely powerful and professional up to the last note. Hearing her sing, you immediately forget all the clichés, comparisons to any other band or whatever else, as she’s singing you away into the lands of magic, fantasy and winged creatures. On top of that, there are notable Tero Kinnunen and Emppu Vuorinen, who worked on production of this record, which only makes it more quality. So let the clichés be, it is obviously only temporary, yet this kind of professional quality of sound and endless talent of Magdalena Lee will soon be Finland’s leading and most known female metal act.
