This is courage! A band not giving a damn about pop schemes: no stupid arrangements, no time limits and no trendy shit. This is courage that might pay off, yet might also fail!

``Avoid the Light`` is the second full length album for Long Distance Calling and it is again almost only instrumental. Only `The Nearing Grave`, performed by Jonas Renkse of Katatonia, has some vocals to offer. Instead, Long Distance Calling really understand to create intense atmospheres only by using their instruments. Guitars and ambiences are working hand in hand.
But is this music as brilliant as needed to bind the listener in front of the player? To be quite honest, I see some more space for improvement here.

I wish the guys would have more imagination when playing their instruments: Where are the insane guitar leads? The wild bass lines? What about drums changing the rhythm unforseen? Like this, Long Distance Calling are making only (good sounding) back ground music, but they are not creating an instrumental storm, catching every listener.
