Lyriel, from Gummersbach/Germany, have been active since 2003 and their first both releases "Prisonworld" (2005) and "Atumntales" (2006) received predominantly positive resonances. The positive aspects in the sound of the seven are that all current genres look too narrow. A hard-rocking foundation, with some metallic moments, combined with Celtic folklore and also quiet acoustic passages. Besides, the boys and girls differentiate themselves pleasantly strongly from the stamped out paths of forerunners like Schandmaul, Subway to Sally or Saltatio Mortis. All this also makes "Paranoid Circus" again an interesting musical roller coaster journey, somewhere between a straight rock show and a druidic invocation ritual.
A little bit more courage in the area of the vocal arrangements could lend a clear push to the sound of Lyriel, like arrangements for several voices, changes between male and female voices or a little bit more bombastic choirs, something to wish for. Keep on rocking!
