If you are disposed for a straight played guitar-rock without big effects or a squint to the market, but puts punk, death`n´roll and a spoonful of morbid nostalgic 70th hard rock into the mixer – you should give this new debut of Nemhain a try. They don’t invent a new species of music, but this isn’t the goal. They just let the strings, drumheads, eardrums and walls earthy vibrate. Together with whisky in the vains comes the sex-appeal: the front-lady and known fetish-model Morrigan looks good in latex, but shows now and here – after experiences as a stage performer with Motörhead and Cradle Of Filth – that she has a real rocking voice. At the mic she calls herself now with her civil name Amber Erlandsson; and Erlandsson is the surname of her husband, the Swedish drummer Adrian, who plays for Paradise Lost, too, as he formerly did for Cradle of Filth. This man obviously doesn’t get enough. Hot for rock is also the small, but dedicated label Tiefdruck Musik from Hamburg, who signed the contract for this piece of music – they say, musicians and label-boss subscribed with blood.

The album starts powerful and heavy. The sound isn’t that spectacular, let rather old memories awake which certainly are – if you like this kind of music – absolutely enjoyable. The production sounds spontaneous, straight, snotty and shouldn’t be played in apartments, where the neighbour immediately starts to knock against the wall; you should listen to it loudly. “Ana” the second track, begins melancholic and muted in a very British way, but bursts out with thunder a la Ramones. The guitars scream, the windows in your flat crack. “Clear my Eyes” goes close even in the way of singing to Ozzy´s Black Sabbath tune. “Jane Doe” takes a silent start till the band explodes again that the ears squeak. At the end there stays the impression of an album full of energy. But it stays the wish to discover some more differences between the songs which all of them turn on the gas and let too less contrast between. If you listen all time to the power you won’t feel it anymore; it’s the shadow that characterizes the light.
