Santa Cruz is a very young and ambitious band from Finland`s Capital Helsinki. The quartet was founded about the year 2007 and since that time they work their asses off, especially in the clubs of their hometown. And although they play - according to their own statement - "Good Ol` Glamorous Hard Rock" they waive any bells and whistles, both at shows on stage and for their artworks, even if those gadgets are typical for this genre. In the end it`s just Rock`n`Roll - or not.
In the case of Santa Cruz it is, as the opener "We`re Aiming High" of the 5 track EP "Another Rush Of Adrenaline" will prove right away. It starts to rock outright, the chorus with the backing vocals of the guys around singer Archie is quite catchy and Archie himself sounds here and there like a certain Mister Rose but younger. It winds down with the semi-ballad "Sweet Sensation" and also here the vocal support of Johnny (Guitar), Middy (Bass) and Taz (Drums) is in demand.
The tempo calms down more with "Too Late, Tonight" which is accompanied only by an
acoustic guitar. Little by little also the other instruments are used. Santa Cruz is not a "one man show" and this team spirit is not only visible at their live shows but also hearable on this record.
With "Screamin` For Adrenaline" follows the strongest song next to the opener on "Another Rush Of Adrenaline". It`s my favourite. Not less rockier the disc ends with "Still I`m High".
This EP makes you maybe not really hight but at least addicted if you have listen to it two, three times. To do their stage shows and their artworks without any fuss is ok `cause either a band rocks or not and Santa Cruz definitely rock. Only the production could do with a whiff of more bombast so that the songs can capture you right away while you are listening to them for the very first time but that will come hopefully soon with the long overdue record deal. Maybe the guys can manage it to go into the studio soon again, independent of a record deal, `cause five songs are just five songs... And we want more!
