Something new from the house of Bodom
But then…not really anything new, as Children of Bodom delivered exactly what one expected with “Relentless Reckless Forever”.
The seventh studio album has everything that a new Bodom album holds: fast songs, almost too many and too long guitar solos –although each and every one holds quality –partially too well intended keyboard passages, keyboard – guitar battles, forward pressing beats and of course screaming and howling Laiho-vocals. Producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Monster Magnet) was taken aboard for the album, but he didn’t seem to be able to smoothen up the sound, nor did he manage to bring anything new into the latest production.
The kids grew up a long time ago and one can see this in the song writing. The rawness of the “Wildchilds” has been outweighed by a sense of meticulous planning. If I am not mistaken, this album is the first one not to have “Bodom” within their song titles.
Within almost all of the songs, there are melodies and riffs, which CoB is known for. Apart from “Shovel Knockout” there are no songs that really stand out. Another minus point for the album is the playtime; for a full-length album 36 minutes is way too short.
Those, who are not too familiar with CoB, as well as those, who want to stock up their CoB collection should get their hands on this album.
