The Canadian punk rockers Slates just released their second album titled Prairie Fires. The band hailing from Edmonton formed in 2008 and in 2009 Slates published their debut album. In January 2010 the guys toured with Solitary Rock through Cuba and played ten shows in 14 days sharing the stage with Cuban punk rock and metal bands. The equipment the band used throughout that tour was later donated to Cuban rock bands.

Prairie Fires is now testimony of the experiences the band had in Cuba. The songs Sancti Spiritus and Julieta tell about all those things that were going on. The band delivers very melodic punk rock or as they call it “honest rockīnīroll”. However, you can clearly hear their punk influences – mostly because they donīt really seem to care about their vocals, no matter how flat it sounds, they just keep going on – but thatīs exactly what makes punk punk. Certainly, an energy-laden album full of cool music.
