ARISTILLUS are angry! Even though the band has to be filed under emo pop the Norwegian guys, lately, seem to have discovered their hardcore roots, too. Those who did not know the band before will probably enjoy “Devoured Trees & Crystal Skies”. It has got sweet melodies and choruses, which are suitable for a stadium, however, the pathos in songs like Neurotic or Bury The City Lights and the power pop song Circles are actually unforgivable. But, thank God or whoever, with songs like Colour The Hope, Exit Evolve or When The Flower Grows, singer and guitarist Simon Bergseth is finally growling again giving a much needed kick-in-the-butt to the corresponding passages. The NWoBHM parts, which were included now and then, are also fun, but they could have been longer. Indeed, you can also hear some postcore on “Devoured Trees & Crystal Skies”. Fans of the band will simply love this album no matter what.
