Vocalist Mignon Baer´s career began in 2002 when she toured with none other than infamous Canadian performance artist Peaches - and the two are still working together to-date. In 2003 the “bad girl from Berlin” launched her solo career but her debut album titled Bad Evil Wicked and Mean was released under the monicker Mignon only in 2007 – that´s the factual background.

Honestly, I have so far never heard of her but a quick look at her website reveals that, especially with live performances, she likes to shock. And with Kiss Of Death, her second album, Mignon has now lots of new material to go on tour again and show off her shocking skills. According to the press release, it is supposed to be a mix of punk and rock´n´roll but what you can actually hear is a squeaky voice without any power whatsoever. It doesn´t sound bad but it doesn´t really fit to the very provocative and aggressive appearance of Miss Mignon either.

Musically, it´s pretty low-key. When the sound gets a bit faster and one already starts to be excited about it, it´s over again, and the same old sound goes on and on. There´s absolutely no power. And when someone sings: “You got my fist in you face” it should sound believable, or not? The best song on the album is Kiss of Death because supported by an acoustic guitar, Mignon´s voice sounds way better and the song is nicely written and produced. Which is sadly something all the other songs lack. Maybe also with the outfit one should rather go for the “dreamy” look than the “bad girl” but that´s another story.
