Epysode is the new project of Virus IV guitarist Samuel Arkan. Basically, the idea behind the music of Epysode can be compared to what Avantasia do. With the help of numerous fellow musicians, they did an excellent concept album.

The story behind the songs is about a profiler. He tries to hunt down a mass murderer, who´s after families. He murders the parents and kidnaps the child, who is later found alive and well in a hiding place. Next to it lies a dead man, age 54, whose cause of death can not be determined. However, the profiler at some point finds out, after the crimes repeat themselves 45 years later, that the boys, who were kidnapped 45 years ago, have now become the murderer. And so the killings will happen again, when the kidnapped child turns 52 and mimics his kidnapper´s crimes.

An interesting story, in which the singers on the record slip into different rolls. And so Kelly Sundown Carpenter (Beyond Twilight, Outworld) is responsible for the main character´s voice, the profiler Kallon. Magali Luyten (Ayreon, Beautiful Sin, Virus IV) sings in the name of the Soul Esh; Oddleif Stensland (Communic) is Yae, The Fallen & Murderer; Liselotte „Lilo“ Hegt (Ayreon, Dial, Valentine) is the medium Valma and Rick Altzi (At Vance, Thunderstone) is the ghost Maymos. As musicians, Samuel Arkan could win over Kristoffer Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation, Dial), Christophe Godin (Morglbl), Leo Margarit (Pain of Salvation) and Julien Spreutels (Ethernity).

14 songs with a really special atmosphere were written. However, they can´t quite match up with the compositions of Avantasia mastermind Tobi Sammet cause the songs are sometimes to chaotic but the record nevertheless offers lots of eclecticism. Especially, the girls on the record are a positive surprise. Vocally, the record harmonises really well and the singers complement one another perfectly. The only bad point is that the music sometimes gets too much in the foreground, which causes the chaos and swallows all those beautiful vocals. But altogether, it is a great piece of art, a new metal opera, which can hopefully be watched live soon, too.
