Fleshgod Apocalypse come from beautiful Italy and I was close to forwarding the review of their mighty-looking album „Agony“ to someone, who can stand Power Metal. Alas! Here it is again: Don´t judge a book by it´s cover! The only Power Metal aspect was the clear singing, which leans towards testicle pinching. Apart from that, “Agony” presents the new generation of Death Metal meets Classic, whereby –apart from the obvious example, Dimmu Borgir- the symphonic, grandiose contingent is stronger and the Metal, apart from the singing, is more subdued. About the vocals it must be stated that apart from the previously mentioned irritating high voice of the bassist Paolo Rossi (Bass & Clean Vocals), there are nice, dark growls and screams from Tommaso Riccardi (Guitar & Vocals). The album had a clean production and broke some of the prejudices one usually holds against Italian Metal. It was epic, nice and worth buying.
