”A Kansas City Shuffle is when everybody looks right, you go left.“ This quote from the gangster movie “Lucky Number Slevin” is not only the title of the new album by Pencilcase from Germany but it´s probably also their life and music motto as they themselves say that they “wont ever deter from their musical profile and simply pull through with their own version of RocknRoll”.

The four musicians are inspired by bands like the Foo Fighters, Audioslave or Puddle of Mudd. Their second album includes 14 songs, so there should definitely be something on it for everybody. Their melodic, straight-forward rock impresses with genre-typical guitar elements and rattling drums, which give the whole thing the needed groove. Singer Joscha Golzari´s voice sometimes sounds sort of raspy but that´s exactly what songs like „Say Goodbye“, “Living like you´re Dead“, “MCA“ and on the slower end „Living Another Life“ need. The latter also shines with a very nice chorus. Besides the title track “Kansas City Shuffle”, these rock pieces are also the best on the record.

The lyrics are about things that everyone wants, such as freedom, friendship and self-esteem. So those who like melodic rock should have a listen and then you will “move your feet to the beat of the Kansas City shuffle!"
