After releasing their album „Tiny Melodramas“ and playing numerous gigs, The Blackscreen now publish their latest EP „The Ghosts That Haunt Us“. On it, you´ll find seven songs, of which the seventh is a bonus track. The band calls the whole thing “Death Pop” but, not with the best will in the world, can I hear anything Death here. For me, this record is, as well as the previous release, Emo-Rock-Pop with a touch of melancholy. The sound is almost always built up the same way, just occasionally there are a few different sounding guitar riffs added to jazz it up, make the song sound harder. Nevertheless, the music sounds similar and the same is also true for the vocals. This doesn´t mean that the songs are bad as such but they are indeed quite monotone. With the first song “Lullaby” you still think: alright, good guitar sounds, nice rhythm with cool vocals. Then you listen to the second song and with the third you think: wow, the songs are so much alike and then with the fourth one you wonder, “Haven´t I heard this before?” Well, fans of modern Rock Pop music will probably like this record. I always say listen to the records yourself, only then you can decide if you feel the same as I do or not.
