Undecimber is a Gothic Metal band from Stockholm, Sweden, founded in 2007. The band first gained recognition for writing the soundtrack for Swedish horror writer Åsa Schwarz´ Demonology series, and their music also appeared in the documentary movie A Gothic Confession (An Interview With A Goth). Now they released their debut album, which is now available also internationally.
According to this info, I expected a bit more than a rather tame Depeche Mode-meets-Wolfsheim-meets-Sisters-Of-Mercy thing. The sound is way too targeted towards commercial Radio for my taste. A pity, because there are a couple of good songs, e.g. Never Broken, Together In Death or Darkness, which could have been a smash Gothic hits with a bit more punch and real tough Metal guitar sound. I also like the Piano-Cello-Pop ballad "Take This Life" - a nice tune. Still, for me it´s Dark Rock "light", so to say, something for those who find HIM, The 69 Eyes or Type-O-Negative way-too-brutal but still want to wallow (a little) in sinister spheres. For those who rather watch the Twilight than the Interview With a Vampire movies...
