With “Broken Bones“, Dokken present their eleventh studio record. Admittedly, with Don Dokken and Mick Brown only two founding members are left in the band, which is part of to the Hard Rock/Metal elite in L.A., but also Jon Levin and Sean McNabb are doing well on guitar and bass. Soundwise, Dokken announced a record that will be “back to the roots”. I think going back to the beginnings of the band is almost impossible, and why should one want to do that with the numerous possibilities nowadays anyway. Nobody wants over production or too many effects, but something fresh doesn´t hurt any band. Dokken managed to find a nice compromise with “Broken Bones”. The songs still sound fresh and not like they would try to hunt after times long gone. I can´t say that I like one song better than the other but the title track “Broken Bones” and “Burning Tears” you should definitely give a listen. “Broken Bones” is a solid output, nice songs, with nice melodies and a great singer. What more could you ask for?
