Kryptos are still quite unknown in Western Europe, despite the fact that they are around since 1998 and are already releasing their 3rd full-length album. But they never did more than a few festival shows and only some small tours across Europe. In their home country India, they are much bigger and have already played concerts with bands like Iron Maiden, Kreator and Amon Amarth.
With their brandnew album “The Coils of Apollyon” and a powerful label in the back, they could make a big step towards the Old World. Their new record is actually strong enough on its own, so they don`t need their ´foreigner bonus´. “The Coils of Apollyon” is a first class strike with a mixture of Heavy, Power and Thrash Metal. The songs actually are based on superb riffs but they are dominated by great guitar leads. Many riffs virtually depend on the contrast of heavy chords and subtle melodies, as you can hear best on the opening song “The Mask of Anubis”. Vocalist Nolan Lewis sound a bit like Legion of the Damned`s Maurice Swinkels and brings an extra portion of roughness to the sound.
“The Coils of Apollyon” really offers something for EVERY Heavy Metal maniac and therefore everybody should check it out! I only hope that they will do some touring here to profit from this great record.
