Are you looking for fresh, efficient, technical and extreme metal ? Then you should continue reading that review..or go and directly listen to “Lateral Constraint” !
Two years after the very good “Anthems Of Annihilation”, I´m thrilled to see that the Finns Gloria Morti are back with a new album.
The band doesn´t waste time to show what they have to offer, since from the very first second you´re taken into the war field with the opening track “Lex Parsimoniae” !
As you´re listening to the album, many words can come to your mind : restless, vivid, dynamic..fast and aggressive. Yeah, the chain of songs really won´t give you any time to rest. Okay, I lie here and you can actually find a rather slow part on the song “Sleep, Kill, Regress, Follow”..but not for too long since it´s only about the acoustic intro . A few seconds and the loud and destructive war attack starts again.
Far from being an extreme metal band playing mere and sheer extreme metal, the sound of the Finns stand out. Thanks to that new album, Gloria Morti asserts and strengthens its own style. Too many bands just sound good, but so few own this little something which makes will make them sound awesome ..we´re glad we´ve found one of them ! Technique, melody, brutality..there is never too much and all the elements are all well-balanced.
Please note also it requires skill and dexterity to play such an extreme music AND to make it sound efficient. It´s such a pleasure to hear so many notes sliding the neck of the guitars. We were already used to the well-structured and technical play of Juho Räihä. It seems the band made a great choice including in his new line-up the guitarist Eero Silvonen, who enables the band to be at its best and to show its full potential. The duo just works perfectly : their play is very fast, right and adequate. Note the crushing riff of “Our God Is War”. Guitars are important because they bring the melodic aspect to the songs. But what I like about “Lateral Constrain” is that it´s never too melodic. It´s melodic just enough, just so that you´re not too overwhelmed by the aggressive and brutal background.
The vocals are powerful, and the energy Psycho sings with somehow reminds me of Randy Blythe ( LAMB OF GOD)..And of course the drums, one of the most striking elements of the album. See how fast Kauko Kuusisalo can play and how crushing the blastbeasts on “Aesthetics of Self-Hyperbole” are, for example. The ongoing pounding drums as well as the endless growls makes this war machine efficient !
Enough said, I don´t need to use more words to describe this powerful and intense album. Go and check it out to live the experience. Your ears will get a destructive whirl, but oh so enjoyable ! Be prepared !
