Melosushi are hailing from Bergamo, Italy and sing in their mother tongue on their recently released record, which makes the band quite special. In the booklet singer Chiara Nicoli catches my eye immediately with her blue hair; she is an absolute eye-catcher. Her band colleagues are named Matteo A, B and C. Music-wise Melosushi play something between Alternative-Rock and Punk, they sometimes also play pretty heavy stuff. With singer Chiara they have found a real rock voice, although it sounds a bit forced sometimes, she manages her task very well. Vocalwise and music-wise I note a certain similarity to Gianna Nannini. Chiara has for sure a certain dirty quality for singing in a rock band. The combination with the Italian lyrics and the sound makes the band very special and I think that it is also a matter of taste – for me it’s a change for once. When it comes to the songwriting, it could be improved, the songs sound a bit similar and a few subtleties could be added. But all in all “Istinti Distinti” is a good record. The ballad “Notturna”, where Chiara is backed up by piano, I would have wished for bit more feeling in her voice and a smooth transition between piano and the guitar part.
