After over 10 years of band history, the Italian band Secret Sphere is up for a change. The band parted ways last year with their singer Ramon Messina and presents now their new member Michele Luppi, who already sang in bands like Thaurorod, Vision Divine and Killing Touch. Their new record ”Portrait of a Dying Heart” should be a new beginning and take the band further in the business.

The album is based on the novel “She complies with the night”, which will be also included in the 40-page booklet that comes with the record. A concept album in a very special way, that´s how they announce it, so the expectations are high. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed that they didn´t record it with Ramon because I always found him to be a really good singer who fits perfectly into this Power-Metal band. Live, Michele Luppi could never satisfy me therefore I am really curious about the record.

10 tracks are quite few for a concept album, especially when one song is instrumental. The first tones of Luppi are not bad and remind me sometimes of Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), who is also one of Luppi´s idols. Sometimes the parallels are almost too obvious but in general he does a good job on the record. Still I am sure that Ramon could have set a more distinctive note as the singer. Music-wise songwriter Aldo Lonobile exceeds himself once more with beautiful compositions, sentimental guitar solos and a good basic concept. Everything fits nicely and is in harmony, and especially “Union” is a great song.
