London-based rock band The Brink has recently released their second EP „Back from the Brink“. It offers four classic rock songs that are just fun to listen to. I enjoy the general sound, the harmonies, the guitar riffs and the singing. The singing reminds me of Aerosmith or Def Leppard in parts, their general sound would have fit in well with many late 80s/early 90s bands. That´s not necessarily a bad thing, the familiarity makes me feel comfortable and I can well imagine enjoying them as a live band. Apart from that they offer enough modern elements to not get boring in any way.

They set out to play classic hard rock and they do it well. As far as I can tell, Alex Bittles on guitar, Gary Connor on bass and Jez Kerr on drums all know how to play their instruments, creating a tight sound with recognizable beats and riffs. Vocalist Tom Quick´s strong and a bit rough voice perfectly fits that frame. The songs are powerful, driving forward and keeping the listeners on their toes. I won´t claim The Brink has invented a new sound but that does not matter much because they do their job well. Anyone who is a fan of the genre should give them a listen! One of the songs can be downloaded for free from their Reverbnation site mentioned above.
