„Powerplay“ is the ninth studio record of Swiss Hard Rock band Shakra but just the second with singer John Prakesh. Now the band will see whether the fans accepted him and are willing to buy another record with him as the singer or not. Actually, I am not really worried because all those who are not purchasing a copy of „Powerplay“ for that reason are missing out on 12 tracks that simply are too good to ignore them. From beginning to the end, the songs shine with great melodies, catchy lyrics and, over and over again, they turn into little anthems that make you want to sing along immediately. On this record, John Prakesh sings a bit raspier than before and proves that he was the right choice for Shakra. In-between many fast songs, Shakra placed a slow song (Wonderful Life), too. So I guess there´s something for everybody on this record and, at least for me, it´s very hard to pick a favourite because all the songs are really strong. Great stuff from Mr. Blunier and Co. With such releases right at the beginning of the year, 2013 will surely be a good year.
