A dream team of musicians, compiled at the wish of a record label boss! Normally, I am strictly against this kind of “profit machinery”, where only money and the success of a band counts and not the music itself anymore. If you ask me, I think that band members need to have some kind of a personal relationship if they want to harmonise with each other musically. For W.E.T, the elite of the Melodic Rock scene came together: Robert Såll of Work of Art, Erik Mårtensson of Eclipse and Jeff Scott Soto of Talisman. All pros in their own genre and so it is not very surprising that all the songs are little masterpieces.

“Rise Up” is the second record from this promising trio and the highlight surely is “Learn to Live Again”, where Soto and Erik ´fight´ a grand vocal duel with each other. The compositions are good - they are pleasant and easy songs but now and then there is something missing for me, the last bit of feeling in the vocals or just the final touches with the melody. But anyway, this is a really well-done record and I can only hope that there will be a follow-up record. Some have called “Rise Up” THE Melodic Rock record of the year, if this is really true, everybody has to find out him/herself. It does have lots of potential but who knows what 2013 still has in store for us in this genre.
