After releasing their great album, "The Wretch" in 2011, The Gates of Slumber, from Indianapolis, now delivered an EP with five pure Doom gems. The title of the half-hour EP is "Stormcrow". The opener "Death March" starts in the typical doomy gloomy vibe, at a snail´s pace, with a rumbling bass guitar and beautifully sad vocals. Karl Simon sings and suffers and proves once again that he is worthy to carry the torch that Johan Langquist, Wino and Ozzy passed to him. "(Devils grip) Driven Insane" begins with a pumping drum groove and a nice live sound. The song breathes pure Saint Vitus atmosphere. Very cool bass line. The record continues with an equally strong "Son of Hades" in the mid-tempo range, with lingering riffs and a chugging rhythm section. The second to last track, "Caravan Dragon", sounds like the title already suggests: Sluggish! Danger lurks everywhere. The story of frailty and weakness takes the listener on an emotional rollercoaster ride. "Of that, which never can be" closes the EP with just under eight minutes of total despair and creeping horror. Karl Simon´s voice carries this song with depth and sheer power. Madness! When will the new full-length album be released?
