Since 1984, The Roxx are already around but I´m sure most of you won´t know them. Some of their hits were on heavy rotation in discos around the world, but most of them are forgotten now. The band info praises the band´s lavish live shows that include many surprises but I, for one, cannot confirm that - the shows in Switzerland that I attended weren´t exactly spectacular.
But still the band could convince me with their experimental Heavy Metal. Also their new record “To Heaven with Hell” shows a few of those experiments and shows that the band members still have a lot to offer as musicians. With a few songs, they incorporated strings to achieve a different sound and they didn´t shy away from using oriental stringed instruments either. The song “She´s a Rainbow” even includes spoken lyrics that put a smile on my face. As usual, the music of The Roxx is not really demanding but still it´s absolute listening pleasure – it´s music to relax to and just enjoy what you hear. Those who listen more carefully will probably start pondering about the lyrics and their meaning. Good, solid and versatile songs, which might not become hits but are still worth to be bought.
