When those guys from Hamina, Finland (“The hottest rock bänd of western Siberia”) kick it off, don´t get deceived by the psychedelic intro. Because the following “Cruising” rather displays the dirty R´n´R/Punk-Rock we usually hear from the likes of Ramones or the Hellacopters. Going further, you cannot avoid thinking of Monster Magnet – which might also be caused by Mikko Kiri´s voice – as the feeling has more of a Grunge/Stoner touch. Later, “Nervous Gorilla Breakdown” seems to have been modelled according to Motörhead guidelines. Then again “Open Your Mouth” features Pop sound of the 60/70s, and also the hypnotic R´n´R track “Anything Like This” has some Pop appeal. Still, the overall impression of this 11 song album (produced by Billy Anderson - Sleep, Eyehategod, Mr. Bungle, Melvins, Neurosis etc.) rather goes Punk rock. Chris von Rohr would enjoy this “Dräck” in the sound here... (“dirt” is what the Krokus mastermind usually demanded as TV-casting show jury member) which means, if you enjoy to listen to the bands mentioned above or just all kinds of powerful music somewhere between Faith No More and Von Hertzen Brothers, you definitely got to lend an ear to Sheens.

Sheens is:
Mikko Kiri –vocals / Teemu Muhli – guitar / Harri Pikka – guitar / Antti Porkka – guitar / Eetu Lehtinen – bass / Juho Harjula – drums

Klaudia Weber
