When I was a teenager, I was an enthusiastic guest of the Opera house in my hometown. And at home, I collected CDs of symphonic metal bands with strong-voiced front singers. Back then, the orchestra performed a “Rock meets Classic” concert at the city festival every year, and over and over again, I was really disappointed. Now, the record company 7hard sent me a CD with the slogan “Metallica meets Beethoven”…

All tracks on this album are based on a very classical composition; each title tells a story and has its own dramatic highlight. The classical instruments are mixed with “classical” instruments of a metal band in an absolutely fantastic manner as if it was the most natural thing in the world. The CD did not necessarily remind me of Beethoven, instead my first thought was that Mussorgsky – especially his piano suite “Pictures at an Exhibition” - must have been the godfather of these compositions. With the difference that here the violin plays the leading role. It is so well staged by the rest of the instruments that this purely instrumental album does not need (strong-voiced) vocals at all. In “No Flowers of the Rain” (my favorite), the violin gets support from the keyboard, and when the guitar eventually sets in, my blood runs hot and cold - every time I listen to this song.
